We currently have an opening for an experienced  PRODUCT ENGINEER  at our Burnaby, BC location. In this full-time, on-site position, you will play a vital role in developing, testing, and optimizing these products, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of quality and performance. 

Applicants must be eligible for registration with EGBC, pass a government security screening, and meet eligibility requirements for access to controlled goods requiring a security clearance. 

Job Summary:

  • Collaborate with the design team to provide engineering insights during the concept phase of product development. 
  • Collaborate with the sales and marketing team to gather customer and industry requirements and synthesize product development specifications. 
  • Develop and implement product prototypes and proof-of-concepts to validate design concepts and functionalities. 
  • Conduct thorough testing and analysis of prototypes, identifying areas for improvement and optimization. 
  • Design and oversee the development of production processes, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. 
  • Work closely with manufacturing teams to oversee the transition from prototype to mass production, resolving any engineering challenges that arise.

Job Summary 

  • Analyse and prepare satellite link budgets for GEO, MEO and LEO systems 
  • Prepare test plans and procedures for NPI, custom designs and production support. 
  • Prepare test plans and engage outside test labs for EMI/EMC and environmental certification testing. 
  • As the in-house expert on EMI and EMC, provide feedback to designers on how to improve designs for meeting specifications. 
  • Develop requirements and specifications for internal Automatic Test Equipment workstations, including test plans and qualification plans 
  • As required this job will require taking project lead role and/or project management roll on some development projects 
  • Be the in-house expert on modulation and access schemes used in current satellite networks. 
  • Support the sales team by preparing technical and costing responses to customer RFQs 
  • Support the marketing team by preparing technical articles for the company blog, newsletters and other communications with customers

In this full-time, on-site, position, you will be part of a production team responsible for the tuning and testing of RF amplifiers and sub-assemblies used in satellite communications systems. We operate in a fast-paced environment building prototypes, custom designs and production products. Assignments may include performing final product testing and tuning of RF circuits using RF sweepers, RF power meters, vector network analyzers (VNAs), spectrum analyzers, environmental chambers, and vibration fixtures.

You will need at least two years of RF test and production experience, with demonstrated knowledge of microwave theory and practice. Other qualifications that will enable you to perform successfully in these positions include:

  • Trained or certified for IPC J-STD-001;
  • Skilled with basic hand tools, and machinery such as drill presses, grinders, milling machines;

Assignments will include working with oscilloscopes, signal generators, digital thermometers, data loggers, RF sweepers, RF power meters, vector network analyzers (VNAs), spectrum analyzers, environmental chambers, and vibration fixtures.

Responsibilities will include designing and constructing test sets, jigs and procedures. Conducting and documenting tests for RF and/or baseband circuits will also be part of this role. The ideal candidate will support the development of new or revised products through schematic generation and modification.
