We develop wireless and RF products to serve military, government, aeronautical, earth observation, and other satellite communication customers. Our designs and products span DC to 40 GHz and are installed on vehicles, ships, and aircraft, as well as on the ground in remote locations. Orbital products often need to meet challenging specs or work reliably in extreme conditions, so our people must be creative and committed to producing the highest quality work – from initial concept through to volume production.

CURRENT OPENINGS:

DSP Engineer

The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of wireless technologies, SDR development, digital signal processing and embedded systems. The job requires the ability to interpret internal, customer and other specifications as well as industry standards to synthesize system requirements and architectures – and then to develop and implement solutions in simulations and target hardware.

You will require a good understanding of the entire protocol stack, including modern modulation techniques, error correction coding techniques and bit and packet-oriented communications protocols. Working closely with a multi-disciplined team of mechanical, hardware, RF, and firmware engineers, you will propose, design, implement, test, and deliver solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of new or revised products
  • Algorithm development and testing using simulation tools such as Matlab and Simulink, GNU Radio or equivalent
  • Realization of DSP and SDR algorithms in FPGA platforms
  • System-level performance verification on development and target hardware
  • Applied knowledge of statistical signal processing, estimation theory, digital communication theory, and adaptive signal processing
  • Perform assigned duties effectively as a member of a relatively small, rapid prototyping engineering team
  • Command strong analytical abilities as well as the ability to communicate complex ideas succinctly and persuasively to peers and management
  • Provide technical risk analysis, problem identification and resolution
  • Communicate effectively in presentations, informal communications, and written reports

Requirements

  • A detailed knowledge of the system trade space in software defined radios from the RF front end to back-end digital signal processing
  • Working knowledge of Matlab, Simulink and Xilinx System Generator or equivalent
  • A master’s degree or PhD in electrical/computer engineering
  • Good interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Previous experience in the telecom industry with a working knowledge of SDR highly desired
  • Experience with hardware design of FPGA support boards 
  • Experience in coherent digital demodulation of waveforms such as mPSK, APSK, QAM, etc. 
  • Experience with high speed interfaces (e.g. PCIE, USB, SerDes, JESD204b, DDR4) 
  • Relevant experience with hobbies or university design team

RF Technician

We currently have an opening for talented RF TECHNICIAN at our Burnaby, BC location. In this full-time, on-site, position, you will be part of a production team responsible for the tuning and testing of RF amplifiers and sub-assemblies used in satellite communications systems. We operate in a fast-paced environment building prototypes, custom designs and production products. Assignments may include performing final product testing and tuning of RF circuits using RF sweepers, RF power meters, vector network analyzers (VNAs), spectrum analyzers, environmental chambers, and vibration fixtures.

You will need at least two years of RF test and production experience, with demonstrated knowledge of microwave theory and practice. Other qualifications that will enable you to perform successfully in these positions include:

Mandatory Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience with microwave test equipment;
  • Familiarity with laboratory protocols for handling sensitive components;
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to adapt to new and changing assignments;
  • Read and interpret test instructions, assembly instructions, and engineering drawings (schematics, mechanical drawings);
  • Effective communication skills to work effectively with team members, supervisors, and other employees;
  • Proficiency with PCs and Microsoft Office applications is needed; and,
  • A diploma or certificate in electronics is preferred.

Skills that would be an advantage are:

  • Trained or certified for IPC J-STD-001;
  • Skilled with basic hand tools, and machinery such as drill presses, grinders, milling machines;
  • Knowledge of environmental test processes and equipment;
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, C++ and C#; and,
  • Experience developing automated test systems.
